Good Carbs & Bad Carbs
Good Carbs versus Bad Carbs…
You here the word “carbs” everywhere now days, and many diets now available either utlize Carbs in the diet or suggest against them.
This leads to alot of confusion! Should carbs be in? out? and why?
Lets start at the begining. What is a Carb?
A “carb” is just a abbreviation of “a carbohydrate”.
A carb is a type of calorie that contains an extra amount of energy, thus making you feel more energetic after consuming foods with a high carbohydrate content. Take cakes and chocolate bars for a prime example, after you have eaten them you’ll feel very energetic because of the excess carbohydrate content.
Don’t be fooled into thinking all carbs are bad though, because they are not! This is complicated somewhat by having both “good carbs” and “bad carbs”.
Sugar is a bad carb, and most people believe they know how to avoid it. But unfortunatly sugar in foods comes in many forms and can be tricky to spot. Learning to spot the use of these is essential in loosing weight.
A perfect example of this is Honey. It is believed that foods sweetened with honey are better for you than foods sweetened with sugar — but in reality honey is just as fattening as sugar. In fact, honey is filled with the same fattening carbs as sugar.
How do Carbs Make Me Fat?
Sugar and other bad carbohydrates cause your blood sugar level to rise sharply after a meal. It is this blood sugar increase that is the problem with carbs, as when your blood sugar rises then your body is forced to over-produce a hormone called insulin. Insulin is needed because it helps process excess blood sugar. When the body is forced to create too much insulin it is also forced to store fat.
But if you eat good carbs (instead of bad carbs) then your blood sugar level will not skyrocket after each meal, and thus you can burn fat and lose weight much easier. Plus, you’ll feel energetic all day on a more even level, without the “highs” and “lows” that most overweight people experience.
So to begin losing weight you need to change the types of foods that you eat each day, and you can do this by learning about the Fat Burning Foods.
